National Pride! Machu Picchu is chosen ‘Best tourist attraction in South America’

Peru received four international awards in the 2018 World Travel Awards South America, Promperú reported. Among them: Best culinary destination in South America.

Peru won four major awards at the ‘World Travel Awards South America’, one of the most prestigious events in the travel and tourism industry, Promperú reported.

Our country was awarded in four categories: Best Culinary Destination in South America, Best Cultural Destination in South America and Best Tourist Attraction in South America: Machu Picchu.

In addition, Promperú won the award for Best Tourism Office in South America for the third consecutive year.

The ceremony was held in the historic Crystal Palace of the city of Guayaquil in Ecuador and was attended by leading industry experts.

“These triumphs are a joy for us, as they show the articulated work between the public and private sectors, in addition to putting our country in the eyes of the world, consolidating us as a destination full of history, culture, nature and delicious gastronomy recognized globally, “said the Director of Tourism of Promperú, Marisol Acosta.

The winners of the South American edition will compete in the world edition, to be held on December 1 in Portugal. Peru is nominated in three additional categories: Best Tourism Website: Peru.travel, Best Green Destination and Best Short Break Destination (‘City Break Destination’): Lima.

The World Travel Awards are considered the ‘Oscars of Tourism’, according to the prestigious US newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” and have 25 years of experience recognizing excellence in all sectors of the travel industry and travel around the world.
