The Attorney General’s Office opens an investigation against Manuel Merino, Ántero Flores-Aráoz and Gastón Rodríguez
The prosecutor of the Nation, Zoraida Ávalos, indicated that the preliminary investigation will be in charge of her office for the crimes of abuse of authority, aggravated homicide, serious and minor injuries, forced disappearance.
The National Prosecutor, Zoraida Ávalos, reported in a statement that her office will be in charge of preliminary investigating Manuel Merino, Ántero Flores-Aráoz and Gastón Rodríguez for the alleged crimes of abuse of authority, aggravated homicide, serious and minor injuries , forced disappearance, in the context of human rights violations.
Through a video posted on the Facebook account of the Public Ministry, Ávalos assured that they will work to find those responsible for the deaths of Inti Sotelo and Jack Pintado, who were killed this past Saturday during the protests.
“These deaths will not go unpunished,” he said. She also referred to the disappearances of more than 40 young people after the protests and that, to this day, some do not appear.
As a measure, the prosecutor indicated that 155 prosecutors have gathered to visit all the police stations in Lima to “verify if any of the citizens is still in detention.”
In addition, she expressed that the prosecutor in charge of the investigation of the disappearances has requested the geolocation of the citizens’ telephones. Accordingly, they have asked the Police to “activate the location protocol for missing persons.”
