Zoraida Ávalos ratifies Pablo Sánchez in investigation of the ‘White necks’ case
The prosecutor of the Nation, Zoraida Ávalos, said that the Board of Supreme Prosecutors cannot separate prosecutors who are in charge of investigations. He added that “it would be intended” to render the investigation of more than one year of work in this case void.
The prosecutor of the Nation, Zoraida Ávalos, said Wednesday night that Supreme Prosecutor Pablo Sánchez will continue in charge of the preliminary investigation of the case ‘The white necks of the port‘, after the Board of Supreme Prosecutors decided to separate it from this Investigation last Monday.
Through a message, the head of the Public Ministry said that this collegiate cannot separate prosecutors and added that Pablo Sánchez will continue in charge of the case, as long as his office does not make any other decision.
“The Board of Supreme Prosecutors lacks powers to remove prosecutors who conduct investigations … While my office does not make any other decision, delegated investigations will continue their process“, he said in a video published on social networks of the Public Ministry.
Support and defense of investigated
Ávalos recalled that Sánchez has been working on this investigation since 2018 and that when at the beginning of his administration he supported him to continue the investigations against the supreme prosecutors.
He added that those investigated in this case can use the procedural mechanisms they deem necessary to defend themselves. He also said that she did not put on the agenda the request of Tomas Gálvez to separate Sanchez.
“In the case of investigations in progress there are procedural mechanisms, such as the protection of rights, among others to which the investigated can resort to the exercise of their defense (…) I want to emphasize that as president of the Board of Supreme Prosecutors, I never put I schedule the request of prosecutor Tomas Gálvez to remove Dr. Pablo Sánchez from the investigations,”, he said.
The prosecutor of the Nation also expressed great concern that it would “be intended” to leave without effect more than one year of fiscal work in this case, comprised in 20 fiscal folders.
